I walked into your little coffee shop and took a deep breath of that familiar caffeinated air. As I waited in line, I rehearsed my order, ready to announce it to you after eight long months. Then you looked at me, smiled, and before I could utter a word, you said, “Tall soy chai?”

I nodded, and smiled that you remembered me, remembered what I like, after all this time.

I work at a coffee shop, and I love it when I’m able to remember what people drink, even after long absences.
